"An Unlikely Duke" is a wonderful book about a man named Christopher McCabe who travels into a different world to save the life of a very important person. He goes into a world called "Myrridia" to take the place of Christian Lattimore, the duke of Myrridia.

After arriving in Myrridia, Christian Lattimore ends up murdered and Christopher McCabe must now pretend that he is Sir Lattimore. Christopher and the duke's wife choose to play along with everything and pretend that Christian was never murdered.

Christopher must now act like he is Christian so that the murder does not become public. It's not long before the King and Queen realize that Christopher is not their son. Of course, neither the queen nor the king mentions anything about it. Not long after the holidays, it is about time for Christopher to return to his own world, as his job had been insurance estimates But will he go? Or will he choose to stay in Myrridia?

In my true, honest opinion, I think that "An Unlikely Duke" is a perfect example of what a book is about and how it should be written. From page one, I was hooked. The ending was perfect and fit the plot well. I also really like how this book had just the right amount of details. Enough to give marijuana facts but not so many that it becomes boring. My favorite part of "An Unlikely Duke" was the love story at the end. Throughout the story, I was hoping that those Alabama Lemon Laws characters would get together. (I'm not telling who those characters are as it's up to you to find out.) I would say that this book would be perfect for people of all ages. Also, I would say that "An Unlikely Duke" should be a must read book throughout all schools in the United States. Envy is education loan consolidation shadow emotion, it drives other more passionate emotions like anger, resentment, irritation and dissatisfaction, but rarely shows its true face. Envy creates bad feelings towards others, but it is something we rarely share. Envy is an emotion that we are taught to push down, it is treated with a certain shame, though it is as natural as any other primal feeling. So our envy chews at us and male enhancement feeds the sense of competition we feel towards ourselves. We live alone with our envy and try to deny that it exists. It does not mean that we are greedy or ill hearted, but it could mean that something in yourself is yearning to come out.

There are ways to soothe our envious feelings, by being honest with ourselves about how we are feeling and why. Do you envy anothers talent - is this because it is a talent you lack, or because it is a talent of yours that you have not developed? Is it your perception of their life and situation that creates this feeling? Once you identify the source of the envy and its true nature, it is easier to accept.

As a yogi, I am aware that my ego likes to convince me that I am above feelings of greed and envy - but the truth is that I am loaded with these feelings; for me they manifest mostly in my emotional life. In my yoga practice, I do not feel much envy, I am blessed to be comfortable with my practice.

So whom do I envy and why? It seems only fair that I disclose my own feelings so I will go ahead and tell you...

As someone who comes from an abused, unstable and tumultuous upbringing, I envy those who have stable, supportive,loving families who encouraged them to be all that they can be and want to be. I envy them the environment of trust that I believe this creates...I find it difficult to trust many people. I moved around a lot when I was growing up and was always the new kid in school - I envy those who have had the stability of home in one place, the friends and community that develop from that sense of home. I perceive a support network both within and without these people that I find lacking in myself a lot of the time.

It is not a pretty envy to carry; I counter this (in part) by learning through others how best to bring stability into myself and my own life (an ongoing process). I am blessed with friends who have shared their wisdom with me, it has contributed greatly to my sense of Self love.

I envy women who are tall, leggy and slim - I am short, not long, slender legged, curvy and have, in the past, struggled with my weight. I envy those who do not have any stage fright (or who manage to overcome it) - I have a talented singing voice that fear keeps me from sharing or letting loose my inner diva (she's a smokey jazz singer actually but...). I envy those for whom a sense of confidence, self-esteem and self-belief come easily - for me they do not. I envy those who are naturally meticulous and neat - I can be messy, disorganized and scattered. My point in sharing these is that it does not feel comfortable to admit that I am somehow petty, even though I know without a shadow of doubt (or envy) that we all have these thoughts.

The purpose of envy, as an emotion Howdy Doody Show process, is to keep us locked in a feeling of lacking, to keep us from our joy - that is simply what envy does. A few decades ago there hardly any such field as international law - only domestic law representing clients with funny sounding names. Nevertheless, US lawyers are heading to China in increasing numbers to practice cutting edge foreign investment law, and many of these adventurers are fresh out of law school. Conventional wisdom has it that heading overseas straight out of law school will ruin your career back home should you ever want to relocate stateside.

I beg to differ. I know of a young man who graduated from law school in the mid-nineties with a high GPA, fluency in Mandarin Chinese, and experience as a Summer Associate in the Beijing office of a major international law firm. He had caught the Asia bug and returned so fast that his diploma had to be mailed to him across the Pacific. Around the turn of the millennium he returned to the US to test out the theory that you cant go home again. With only a few months of effort, he landed a premium position as a delivery driver for Pizza Hut, making a full dollar an hour above minimum wage (plus tips!).

Look in the Mirror: Lets get serious. Before you take a leap across the Pacific, take a look in the mirror and ask yourself this question: Am I an international Lawyer, or am I an International lawyer? (note the differences in capitalization). Whats Plan B in case practicing law in China falls through? Will you be practicing law in the United States, or will you be teaching English in China? What excites you about China law - China, or law? Because when all is said and done, an office is an office, whether its in Beijing, New York, or London. And like it or not, the inside of an office is where the average lawyer spends most of his/her waking hours. Likewise, legal work is legal work; theres not any exciting difference whether youre consulting with clients and drafting documents in Chinese, English, or Serbo-Croatian.

The Prestige Factor: Its very stylish these days for medium and large sized law firms to prattle on and on about our China Office - and it allows for the issuance of impressive-looking bilingual business cards. Its become such a potent status symbol that a many firms (I strongly suspect) are holding on to money-losing offices in China just so they can keep Beijing on the list of cities where their firm has offices. Medium sized law firms in particular like to set up China offices to prove to their clients their status as Big Time International Players sort of like the teenager who wont shave off his peach fuzz because it proves Im a man.

Better to forget about the prestige factor involved in practicing international law overseas. Holding a prestigious job is like marrying a fashion model its cool at first, but hey, law is a jealous mistress - after a couple of months the consolidate stafford loans wears off and youre going to have to live with her day after day, for better or for worse.

Our China Office Strikes Again: Our China Rep Office is more like it. Keep in mind that in China, Representative Offices may not allowed to engage in profit-generating activities. So how do US law firms get away with it? To be sure, a few of them are mostly engaged in the Western legal side of sophisticated cross-border transactions (and thus not generally in the market for new graduates), but the rest are practicing Chinese law illegally. They get away with this in Beijing (not so often in Shanghai) because the Chinese authorities turn their heads, ignoring the wounded howls of jilted (and well-qualified) Chinese lawyers. The reality is that many foreign investors still feel more comfortable retaining US lawyers even though top Chinese lawyers are far better able to understand legal and linguistic nuances that American lawyers are likely to overlook. In other words, US lawyers are tolerated by the Chinese authorities because they help attract foreign investment. When the English language ability of Chinese lawyers improves enough to inspire greater confidence among foreign investors, the Chinese government may start rolling up the welcome mat for foreign lawyers. And it wont even take a new law to throw them out only enforcement of existing law. Imagine the spectacle of former China investment lawyers returning to the US Pez sandwich boards reading Will Litigate for Food. Dont get caught in mid-career all dressed up with no place to go.

Lawyers without Borders: Dont be silly, there is no such thing (is there?). Doctors without Borders makes sense because human anatomy is basically the same everywhere. Not so with legal systems - even in the wake of increasing standardization of cross-border business transactions, there will always be pesky little barriers (like local bar associations) that will stand in the way of the international free flow of legal services. The law is not the best career choice if you want to live overseas. Lets face it - you should have gone to business school instead.

A Loophole: China allows legal advisors who are not admitted to the local bar association to work in certain jobs that would require bar membership in the US. Included among such positions is corporate counsel at their best, 9 to 5 jobs that come with six-figure incomes. In case six figures isnt enough for you, these positions often provide opportunities for greater wealth as the company grows stock options, for example.

Forget the international law firms doing big sexy deals. Grind out 2-4 years of business law experience in the US and look for a job in the legal department of the China office of a Western multinational.

Relax! Closet organizing is not just a topic for adults. After all, if you could get your child to keep her closet organized, you could get her to...rule the world. See? This is good stuff.

Successful closet organizing for your child is based on the same ideas you would use in your own closet.

Those of us who work in haulage companies sometimes wonder what we've done to deserve such Rawleybirkins villainous Inapond in the film world. Especially in B movies and horror films, it seems that every time someone runs into trouble on a deserted highway, the bad guy inevitably turns out to be a lorry driver...

The Driver, 'Duel' (1971)

The lead character in this movie (Steven Spielberg's debut film as a director) makes the foolish mistake of aggressively overtaking a tanker truck on a deserted mountain road. From that point on he is chased and hounded by the truck and its driver, until he eventually manages to trick his adversary off the edge of a cliff. You never see the face of the tanker driver in 'Duel', and this has become a trend for lorry driver villains on the silver screen - more often than not, they are the unseen enemy behind the wheel of a colossal lorry or tanker.

Ryder, 'The Hitcher' (1986)

Strictly speaking, the villain in this film isn't identified as a lorry driver, but makes such gruesome use of a lorry and its trailer that he has earned his way on to the list. After embarking on a murderous killing spree, the Hitcher ties the hero's girlfriend to the cab and trailer of a large Mack truck. He then uses it to tear her in half, presumably breaking a large number of haulage safety regulations in the process!

Red, 'Breakdown' (1997)

As if having a single lorry driver as a villain wasn't enough, there seems to be an entire evil gang of them in this film. "Earl", "Red" and their friends and family team up to kidnap Kurt Russell's wife (always a bad move in the movie world) after Russell's character almost hits one of them on (yet another) deserted American highway. At the climax of the film, Red is crushed to death beneath his own cab - a tragic way to go for any lorry driver.

Rusty Nail, 'Roadkill' (2001)

After two young men play a prank on a lorry driver, known only as "Rusty Nail", via his CB radio (never mess with the lorry driver's radio!), he pursues and terrorises them for the remainder of the film. Perhaps in homage to 'Duel', the lorry driver in this film is also never seen.

The Creeper, 'Jeepers Creepers' (2001)

In this film, Hollywood's demonisation of lorry drivers reaches a truly ridiculous level - the bad guy in this film is actually a demon! After being chased by yet another aggressive lorry on a deserted highway (spotting a pattern here yet?), a brother and sister spot the lorry driver unloading corpses into a well. As the driver chases them throughout the rest of the film, it is revealed that he isn't a human being, but is a predatory flesh eating monster. Lorry drivers are used to being portrayed badly on film, but this is really pushing it!

The pattern for lorry driver villains in film seems to be: 1) bill consolidation loan heroes accidentally antagonise a random lorry driver on the road 2) The lorry driver turns out to be a criminal/psychopath/flesh eating monster, 3) The heroes spend the rest of the film running (or driving) for their lives. Smokey and the Bandit (1977)

At last, in "Smokey and the Bandit", we have a lorry driver in a heroic leading role - Bo "Bandit" Darville, who is given the challenge of getting a trailer full of Coors Beer from Texas to Georgia in 28 hours, for a promised reward of $80,000. He has been accepted into the prestigious Harvard Medical School, but Ben does not have the finances to attend. Looking at Ben's past, he is worried that he doesn't have anything that would qualify as a "wow" factor.

The ecstasy of victory only lasts so long, however, as a number of problems arise. In-group fighting, losing a distinction between what's real and what's pretend, and the threat of getting caught are just a few of the problems that Professor Rosa's crew has to face in Vegas, and eventually it overwhelms the group, threatening to break them apart. Ben must decide what in his life is the most important.

"21" also stars Laurence Fishburne ("The Matrix") as Cole Williams, a casino consultant who has lost his previous job to card counters and vows to catch this newest group before they take everything from his new job.

"21" hits the mark on everything it tried to accomplish. It showed both the highs and lows gambling can cause. In Vegas, you can be whomever you want and no one needs or wants to know any different. At the same point, the cost of obsession (in this case winning and earning large amounts of money) can become too great. Friendships can be ruined, careers can be put off track, and the important things in life can be lost in the process.

The cinematography in "21" is stunning. As Ben begins to learn and practice card counting, the camera slows down the motion of the cards being dealt in order for Ben to explain how card counting works. The system the group develops involves key words and hand signals. Every time Ben would hear one of these words, Ben would flash back to his practice using flash cards to remember what the words meant. Every time he would see one of the hand motions, the camera would slow down to show how Ben's mind caught and reacted to the signals.

Overall, "21" is a fantastic movie. It tells the story of what can happen when a group of people allow themselves to profit from their intelligence and have a great time while doing it. "21" makes the viewer want to dream big themselves and strive for something out of the ordinary.

Pass Lake: Close to Kamloops, Closer to My Heart

When The Dark Knight Curse moved to Kamloops, British Columbia in 1982, I was just a rookie at fly fishing but I had heard that this was the mecca of bc fly fishing for rainbow trout. I talked to my boss about lakes in the area and he has a couple of incredible stories of huge fish breaking his rod, stealing his line and causing him heartache. I thought, "I'd like that kind of heartache". He was referring to Pass Lake. Back then it was considered a trophy lake of considerable stature. Access was a very poor 4x4 road, there were 2 launches - neither of which were much good.

Some things have changed over the years. You don't need a 4x4 to get to Pass anymore. Since logging was opened up further to the north, the road has been upgraded and is somewhat maintained. There is only one boat launching area but it is better than it ever was. There is a substantial forestry campground with firepits and outhouses. The regulations have changed slightly to accommodate the increased pressure due to improved access. And there are Triploids. Oh baby!

This treasure of a lake is located about 25 kms north of Kamloops on the Lac du Bois road. The drive to and from Pass Lake is majestic in itself as you migrate and transition through about 4 geo-climatic zones. First, you wind your way up through the rugged desert hills of sagebrush and tumbleweed of Lac du Bois Provincial Park. Next are the productive grasslands of bunchgrass, juniper and home to grazing cattle and deer. As you approach Lac du Bois itself, the terrain becomes more parkland, rolling pastures dotted with shallow duck ponds, deciduous trees and dryland douglas fir. Finally you arrive into an interior forest of fir, pine, spruce and poplar. I must say that the view offered during the scenic drive home is a fine reward or consolation even on the least productive days of fishing.

Pass Lake has always been a moody lake. It rarely gives up a day when fish zero in on your fly all day long like it's going to be their last meal. I have been skunked many a time. For the persistent fisherman, it does produce handsome rewards. It's one of those lakes that has two types of fish. Little ones and big ones. The little ones will tease you while they are under 12". Then they get hungry and are rarely seen until they are 20" or bigger. There is always a reasonable expectation to catch a trophy sized fish and that's what keeps me coming back.

I have found that late May, early June and Sept / Oct are the best times to hit Pass. It can be productive during the summer months but you may have to brave the dark in the late evening or pull your butt out of bed very early in the morning.

The lake is surrounded with productive marl shoals and dropoffs. The late May chironomid hatches can turn the fish into ravenous hunters amongst an aluminum hatch of small boats. I have seen times when 5 or 6 fisherman had fish on all at the same time in a 250 metre long stretch of shoal on the north side of the lake.

Perhaps the most prolific hatch at Pass Lake is that of the mayfly, starting in late May and culminating in mid-June. The key is to fish them with a floating line as they migrate toward the surface to emerge as adults. Another food staple that produces large fish is the leech. The lake has a healthy population of leeches and fishing this pattern throughout the season can be very productive.

As I said earlier, this lake is moody. It's one of those lakes that you may not have a bite all day but you still feel that next time it will be your day. It's part of the mystque and lure of Pass Lake.

Pass Lake was the first lake that I fished in the Kamloops area that I knew, one day, I would catch a big fish. It took 3 visits before I hooked a big one and now I have been forever smitten. The lure of trophy fish captures my soul and I make Pass Lake my destination of choice many times each season.

These exercises include dumbbell and cable cross over flys which put intensely isolated resistance on the "pec-delt tie-ins" located at the intersection of your chest and shoulders.

To build pectoral mass you should instead focus on flat Devil's footprints and incline dumbbell presses, parallel bar dips and weighted pushups. As a guideline to the relative amount of weight that you should use to stimulate muscle growth, I've found that 70-85 percent of my "one-rep" maximum with proper technique is best for these purposes. In other words, if your one-rep maximum for dumbbell bench press is 100 pounds (i.e., two 50 pound dumbbells), you should initially complete your work sets with dumbbells ranging from about 35 to 45 pounds.

During the mass building phase of your chest workouts, the "pyramid principle" requires you to progressively increase the amount of weight lifted during your work sets. As you increase the amount of weight, you decrease the number of repetitions performed in each set. A sample pyramid set for doing dumbbell bench press with a one-rep maximum of 100 pounds would be the following:

Set #1 - 10 reps x 30-35 pound dumbbells;

Set #2 - 8 reps x 35-40 pound dumbbells;

Set #3 - 6 reps x 40-45 pound dumbbells;

1-rep maximum - 50 pound dumbbells.

If you can't work with 70-85 percent of your one-rep maximum at the beginning of your chest building program, don't worry about it. Just find an amount of weight that challenges you to complete 10, 8 and 6 repetitions and gradually increase the resistance from that point. You don't need to try a one-rep maximum lift in every workout, but this "power-check" allows you to monitor your strength increases and ensure that you're using enough weight during your work sets.

When your one-rep maximum increases or you find that you can do more than 10, 8 or 6 reps as you pyramid through your work sets, then it's time to increase the amount of weight for each of these sets to continue stimulating muscle growth. The pyramid principle is simple and essential to building a big, muscular chest. You should apply it throughout the mass building phase of your chest training efforts.
